What I’d Wish I’d Known Series – Part 1

This year, we’re introducing monthly articles by student editors. Here’s our first series detailing what Optometry/Vis Sci students wished they knew. Oh boy, I wish us final years had access to these tips earlier on…We’ll be releasing one article per day this week (for 1st,2nd, 3rd and 4th year), so keep tuned!

What I Wish I’d Known in First Year – Veronica Giang, Class of 2020
Here are a few things I wish I’d known so that I could start first year on a good note!

  1. There are plenty of people in the same boat as you, so don’t feel nervous. Try and get out of your comfort zone and talk to someone; it could really make their day and turn out to become a great friendship!
  2. Don’t stress too much about work and exams. Obviously, do the best that you can and study hard, but try to really enjoy first year! The workload gets heavier as the years go by, so go make some memories while you have plenty of time!
  3. Be friendly and get to know your lecturers well because they’re there in the background throughout your degree to help you!
  4. Manage your time wisely to reduce stress levels. Likewise, try to get a healthy balance of social and educational activities to get the best out of uni.
  5. You can eat in lectures – there’s no need to try hiding your food.

To the future!

Wow! What a crazy yet amazing year 2015 was

Our goal has always been to enrich students’ academic and social lives by providing events, support and networking opportunities whether it be with optom buddies, academia or industry professionals. This year we worked with a number of different teams,  special shoutout to Optometry Australia, Young Optometrists, Coopervision, Opticare, Luxottica, Designs for Vision, OptiMed, Provision and Specsavers. This is an inspiring time for optometry students, as we are blessed with opportunities, learning facilities and academia we could only ever dream of.

It’s a bittersweet moment for us, as the old executive team, but I am positive the amazing executives of: Henrietta, Vincent, Sarah and Ronald will make 2016 the best year yet.

Let’s recap a few memorable moments from the year:

Welcome back everyone!

Another year has passed and another year of tears, laughter and unavoidable all-nighters is upon us. We got a blockbuster year planned for 2015!

First off, I’d like to introduce the new committee for 2015. This year’s committee will be headed by myself, Wilson, with Rose, Matt and Nora filling in the Vice presidency, treasury and secretary roles respectively. The old guard have done a wonderful job and we look to one up them!
